Formula  Aerobatic  Race The Rules

Article 1 SAFETY RULES:

For this contest only the pilots who fulfill the following conditions may apply:
- international competition experience
- air show experience

Notice to the organizer:
The organizer is obligated to organize the race over an unpopulated area. The race laps must be performed away from the race spectators (see also: article 2 - sentece five and article 3 - sentence two)

Notice to the contesting pilots:
Pilots are obligated to follow the local rules of flying.
It is forbiden to fly over the spectators of the race – doing this will cause an immediate disqualification from the event. Flying lower than 10m anywhere during the lap(s) will also cause an immediate disqualification from the event.

Article 2 GENERAL RULES:

In this type of race the aircraft is flying between four (4) inflated pylons, 18m high, posted as two (entry and exit) »doors«. The doors are in the bottom 25m wide, posted at a distance of 400 to 800m. The race starts by passing through the entry door (passing through the door switches on the timer). After that, the pilot has to perform a compulsory aerobatic figure which is marked by the chief judge in the standard Aresti manner with the marks from 0 up to 10. Then the pilot has to pass the exit door (the time is still running) and after that he has to perform an return leg (away from the spectators), parallel to the first, »aerobatic« leg, what brings him back to the entry door for the second lap in which he has to perform another compulsory figure and so on. After five (5) laps with five different compulsory figures and by passing through the entry door for the sixth (6) time the timer stops and the race is finished.

Article 3 LAPS:

With the first pass through the entry door starts the race and the first lap. After the compulsory figure and pass through the exit door the pilot must perform the turn away from the spectators to enter the return leg of the lap. In this manner all laps must be performed.

Article 4 PASSING THROUGH THE DOORS:

Each door (entry and exit) is build up from two (2) inflated pylons, 18m high. The entry and exit doors are watched by one line judge each. The pass through the doors is regular if performed higher than 10m from the ground surface and lower than top of the pylons - during passing through the top of the door at least one half of the aircraft has to be lower as the tops of pylons. For each irregular pass through the doors there will be 5 penalty seconds added on the whole race time (if doors passed to high), or a pilot will be disqualified (if doors were passed to low). For each contact of the pylons with any part of the aircraft there are 10 penalty seconds added.

The entry door contains an electronic timer which starts to count the time of the race. After 5 laps and six (6) passes through the (entry) door the timer stops counting the time and the race is finished. The exit door contains no electronic timer. The second function of the line judge on the entry door is also to back up the electronic measuring system with an ordinary stop watch.

Article 5 AEROBATIC FIGURES:

In this type of race the following standard Aresti figures may be used:

- Horizontal line pasing trought the dors

- 180° back up turns

- Treequarter loop

- Cuban eight

- Fourquarter roll on the 45°  climbing line

- Twohalf roll on the 45° climbing line

- Roll on the 45° climbing line

- Sharks tooth with optional rools on the vertical climbing line

- Humpty-bump with optional rools on the vertical cliimbing line

- Half Cuban eight

- Immelman

Article 6 MARKING OF THE AEROBATIC FIGURES:

The figures are marked (using the standard Aresti accuracy criterions) with the marks from 0 up to 10. The highest mark means 10. However these marks are not multiplied by K-factor of the figures as usually in aerobatic contest. Rather than that, the marks are converted into the seconds. Each point of the mark values 1 second and the sum of all marks converted in to the seconds is then deducted from the time of contest flight (see article 7).

Article 7 CALCULATION OF THE RACE TIME:

The chief judges assistant calculates the final time in the following manner: to the complete (5 laps) race time (measured in the seconds) the judge adds all irregular passes (for each irregular pass 5 penalty seconds) and then he subtracts the marks for all five (5) figures converted in to the seconds – the remain time is the pilots race time.

Example: the complete race time of five (5) laps for some imagined pilot was 3 minutes 47 seconds. He also passed the doors six times irregulary, thus he gets 6 x 5 penalty seconds ═ 30 penalty seconds added. So he gets total of 4 minutes 17 seconds for his race time. Then this time is deducted by his five (5) figures marked with following marks: 1. figure mark 8, 2. figure mark 7, 3. figure mark 9, 4. figure mark 8 and 5. figure mark 8 ═ 8+7+9+8+8 ═ 40. Since these marks are converted in to the seconds, the pilot this way gets its final time of 3 minutes 37 seconds. This time is then used for pilots qualification.

Article 8 COMPLAINS:

Complains will be resolved by the jury combined from the organizer and judges. Complains are last admitted 30 minutes after the last race. The fee for complains is 500 €.

Article 9 AWARDS:

After each race there is a money prize given to the best pilot – for the first place 5000 €, for the second 3000 € and the third 1000 €. At the end of the series »Formula Aerobatic Race« also, a main money prize and cup will be given to the champion of the series.

Article 10 OBLIGATIONS:

All the enlisted pilots have the right to participate on the race, but also the obligation to follow the rules. They have to be on the press conference and training day before the race, and they have to be present at labelled aircraft parking places one hour before the race start. They have to participate the VIP dinner after the race. Also, a pilot has to provide technical assistant for the whole race event time.
